The Evaluation Process

When considering laser eye surgery, it’s important to start with a comprehensive eye exam. Our team can evaluate your unique eyes to determine which option is right for you. We’ll go through a series of tests to ensure your eyes are stable and suitable for refractive surgery.

During this time, you can ask questions you have about the surgery and we’ll go over in detail what to expect prior, during, and after the process. We work with trusted surgeons in the area for you to achieve desired results.

Laser Eye Surgery Options

Laser eye surgery can correct refractive errors like myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), and astigmatism. LASIK and PRK are both beneficial procedures for vision correction, and a consultation will help determine what option is right for you.

Laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) is a surgical procedure that changes the shape of your cornea to provide you with clear vision.

At the start, numbing drops will be put in your eyes to minimize any discomfort. A tool will be used to hold your eyes open while a suction ring is placed on your eye. Your surgeon will then use a laser to cut a small flap in your cornea to fold it back while the reshaping takes place.

A programmed laser reshapes the cornea and the flap is folded back into place without the need for stitches. This procedure usually takes around 30 minutes or less.

Photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) is a similar procedure to LASIK as it reshapes the cornea with the use of a laser, but with PRK, the surgeon removes the outer layer of the cornea to access the tissue below.

Local anesthesia may be used and a tool will hold your eyes open to keep you from blinking. A laser programmed with your eyes’ specific measurements will reshape the cornea using pulsing beams of ultraviolet light.

After the laser is done, a non-prescription contact lens will be placed on the eye like a bandage to keep your eye clean and avoid infection.

PRK usually takes 5–10 minutes per eye to complete.

Follow-Up Care

Once your laser eye surgery is complete, we’ll schedule a follow-up appointment to monitor the healing process. A follow-up appointment will help us determine if reading glasses or further vision-enhancement procedures are necessary.

We’ll continue to check in and schedule appointments as needed to determine if any further corrective lenses or procedures are needed in order to achieve your desired results.
